Passenger Safety Video on MediaCAT Digital Signage
MediaCAT History

Navaho's MediaCAT Digital Signage player was first built in 2004 as a simple advert player with a secure media transfer mechanism. At this time, most players were using un-encrypted FTP to transfer files, which was not only insecure but also not very efficient.

Drawing on our background in network security, Navaho equipped the MediaCAT with a highly secure operating system and network communications stack combined with an efficient transport mechanism which transferred only the parts of files which had changed and could use multiple MediaCATs as mirrors to speed up data roll-outs for large Digital Signage networks.

As MediaCAT digital signage started to be used more for electronic notice boards, we decided that it needed an easier to use management interface to allow users to be able to update their digital signage on a daily basis.

MediaCAT 2 was launched in 2006, with a slick, easy to use web interface that allowed users to create playlists and networks of digital signage screens in minutes. MediaCAT continues to be used in a wide variety of applications including buses, ferries, education and retail advertising - including the 1500 screen Point Four Decision Vision network.

MediaCAT 3 was launched in 2009 and built on the success of its predecessors by further enhancing the web interface to provide an intuitive, desktop application type experience, with all the benefits of web based management.

MediaCAT's 'scenes' feature was introduced, allowing the display screen to be quickly and easily subdivided into separate areas for videos, RSS tickers, web pages, slide shows, live TV and more. Scene editing is all done via an easy to use drag-and-drop interface, allowing scenes to be created in seconds.

MediaCAT 3 also introduced the concept of plugins, allowing us to easily expand its functionality to accommodate the ever increasing number of applications which MediaCAT supports. To date, we have written plugins for a variety of solutions including; Airport Passenger Information, Hotel/Conference Room wayfinding, Estate Agent property displays and Education notice boards.

MediaCAT continues to be deployed in a wide variety of applications and we have had lots of positive feedback from our customers. For more information about MediaCAT please visit our MediaCAT Digital Signage website.
